We are looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to join our successful HR Service Centre.

We provide high-quality HR Transactional Services, including payroll, to two metropolitan borough councils and around 80 other employers. Our customer base, although primarily centred in South Yorkshire, is geographically spread across the North of England. Our customers employ their staff on a range of different terms and conditions; services are accessed online within a fully self-service environment.

The Payroll Manager will manage, develop and control the daily activities of the payroll and pensions operational teams, taking responsibility for planning the team’s activities to ensure deadlines are met, employees are paid accurately and on time, while ensuring the probity of the HR and Payroll system, addressing compliance issues and meeting legislative requirements.

Applicants will need to have extensive knowledge of current PAYE, statutory payments, pensions (including auto enrolment) and other employment legislation, and be able to demonstrate experience in applying such regulations and working practices in a HR and Payroll service, preferably in a large complex organisation.

Having recently implemented a new HR and Payroll system, and restructured the operational teams to balance workloads, a key requirement for the Payroll Manager will be in respect of team management, and in helping to embed new processes and revised responsibilities in the teams.

From 1st April 2017 to 31st March 2022 employees paid at Band D and above are subject to a temporary pay reduction of 1.15% spread out by means of a weekly / monthly deduction (dependent on pay frequency) from each pay period over the full financial year. In recognition of implementing this temporary measure, those who experience a pay reduction will be awarded of three additional day’s leave (pro rata for part-time).
