An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a Payroll & Expenses Development Officer at the UK’s largest trade union.

 

UNISON is currently seeking a highly motivated and dynamic team member to develop and lead on the day-to-day maintenance of the union’s staff payroll and expenses system.  The post holder will have proven relevant experience in Payroll System Administration plus managing and processing payroll and expenses systems

 

They will assist the Payroll & Expenses Manager in the processing of the payroll and expenses data, ensure all changes are completed in line with the monthly deadlines and statutory obligations, and undertaking monthly and year end reporting requirements, both internally and externally.

 

Responsibilities and duties will include developing the payroll and expenses system and working collaboratively with other departments such as Human Resources to develop and implement new Payroll/HR systems, processes and procedures, training material and reports.

 

Ability to work proactively to support and assist across teams where required and experience of working as part of a dedicated finance team and alongside other operational teams and senior managers. Have strong technical and practical knowledge of payroll systems including development, testing and implementation of processes and controls, and with strong knowledge of current payroll and statutory legislation, to be able to advice on technical matters and general payroll compliance issues.

 

You will preferably have a recognised professional qualification or proven relevant experience in developing payroll and expenses systems. The role calls for an individual who has strong proven analytical skills and reporting attributes with an eye for detail; excellent knowledge and understanding of and experience to understand and/or interpret complicated regulatory requirements and internal operational issues, policies and practices. The post holder will be highly organised and able to work unsupervised to meet the diverse demands and objectives of the payroll, expenses and finance section to strict deadlines.
