We are seeking a confident and motivated individual to join an expanding international payroll team as an Assistant Payroll Manager. This position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse client base, many of whom are high-growth businesses within the global technology space. As a key member of the team, you’ll be responsible for overseeing a range of payroll services, focusing on both UK and international operations. You will take charge of a varied client portfolio and support a team of payroll professionals, helping to deliver exceptional service across multiple markets.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the payroll process for a portfolio of complex clients, including international coordination and UK-based operations.
  • Review UK payroll outputs to ensure accuracy, compliance with HMRC requirements, and pension auto-enrolment obligations.
  • Oversee international payrolls handled by third-party providers, maintaining strong lines of communication and service standards.
  • Support and guide junior team members, acting as their first point of contact for queries and day-to-day client communications.
  • Authorise payroll payments and review funding submissions for client-managed payroll accounts.
  • Lead on new client onboarding, attending introductory meetings and establishing payroll processes from the ground up.
  • Play a key role in enhancing team performance through mentoring, knowledge sharing and helping to build internal capability.

 

What You’ll Bring

  • CIPP qualification (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Minimum of five to six years’ experience in payroll, ideally within a client services environment.
  • Proven experience in managing your own client-facing payroll portfolio.
  • Solid understanding of payroll legislation and best practice.
  • Capable of independently reviewing and signing off on payrolls with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to deal directly with clients.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks under pressure.
