St Joseph’s Hospice was founded in 1905 by the Religious Sisters of Charity and as such it has a rich, Catholic heritage which informs our work today: to support and welcome those in need, from all different cultures, religions and backgrounds.

We provide high quality specialist palliative care for patients with cancer and other life-threatening conditions across East and North London. We have a large team of clinical staff who work across community, in-patient and out-patient services delivering individualised, responsive and holistic support to patients and their families/carers.


Our Payroll Supervisor is the in-house specialist for all payroll pensions and benefits questions and queries. It is a standalone role within the wider HR team, delivering payroll and pension’s services to the 400+ staff of the Hospice.

The post holder should have the ability to work to strict deadlines in a pressurised environment, and should demonstrate a positive attitude and an empathetic and patient personality, together with great organisational skills and forensic attention to detail.

The successful candidate will have

  • PPM (Institute of Payroll & Pensions Management) Team Management in the Pensions/Payroll Office Certificate or equivalent experience required
  • Experience of working in an NHS Payroll & Pensions Department with demonstrable knowledge of the NHS Pension, Royal London Pension Scheme and Auto Enrolment legislation
  • Strong knowledge of Salary Sacrifice schemes including Childcare vouchers, and Cycle to Work
  • Excellent team working skills are required, working as part of the HR Team to deliver the highest quality service to all of our employees
  • Expert knowledge of payroll procedures and processes
  • Experience using Computerised Payroll System and expenses system
  • Work closely with our payroll bureau PBS
  • An organised and flexible approach, ability to prioritise workload to meet strict deadlines

The Professional Systems Team in Information Technology at City, University of London is recruiting a SAP HR GB Payroll Technical Analyst to join a team that provides support for City’s professional systems including, SAP management, identity management and integration tools. The successful candidate will be seeking to build their business knowledge and to further develop technical aptitude and business analysis competencies in a support environment. The SAP HR GB Payroll Technical Analyst will be joining City at an exciting time of change management and will work as part of a great team. Responsibilities

The successful candidate will use their SAP specialist knowledge and expertise to act as the technical analyst in the team and will work in partnership with colleagues in Human Resources and Payroll to ensure that their processes and procedures are understood in order to quickly and effectively provide the team with SAP HR GB Payroll support. They will also have responsibility for the definition and resolution of support issues and requests for SAP HR GB Payroll. In addition, there will be involvement in the full lifecycle (requirements, development, testing and documentation) of projects, enhancements and the annual patching round. Other key responsibilities will include working with third parties and internal teams to ensure resolution of issues and/or delivery of new requirements, along with defining, running and maintaining test suites or working with third parties to do the same.

Person Specification

You will have significant demonstrable experience as a SAP HR GB Payroll specialist and have experience of supporting end users and projects in an established SAP implementation. Significant experience in SAP Time Management with Time evaluation is also essential along with knowledge of ABAP programming or Basis skills.

Alongside the technical experience, the successful candidate will have strong analytical skills including the ability to assess problems, define business requirements and identify, design and deploy solutions.

They will work with business users to understand and document requirements, and be able to communicate with technical and non-technical users.
